Bomencarré Centrumeiland
In 2013, the second phase of IJburg started with the land making of on “Centrumeiland”. Within the urban plan for the island, nature and green takes an important part. It rarely happens in Amsterdam, trees are planted before the first house is constructed. At “Centrumeiland” was chosen for a different approach.
As part of the pace making for the neighborhood, 32 large oaks were planted on the future main square of the island – 6 meters above water level. The source of inspiration were the “Vlietbergen” in Zeeland: small artificial hills, used in the 12th to 14th centurie.
