City of Cities
City of cities is a proposal for a new city for 500,000 people in South Korea. It combines village-like, urban and metropolitan characteristics with a wide variety of urban amenities. The well-organized plan only covers 18 of the 73 km2 project site. The rest of the site is dominated by nature and its use and enjoyment by humans. Together they form the new city and its context.
The key to this project is ‘proximity’. A well-organized public transport system and the urban amenities allows a high density. Within walking distance, the inhabitants finds the diversity of the modern metropolis. Other destinations are easily reached by metro, bus or car. From any point, the great outdoors is at walking distance of a maximum of 1.5 km or 15 minutes.
The urban fabric is composed by “urban islands”, “villages” and “micro micro cities”. The safe and quiet public area in the plan provides a safe environment with trees and play areas for children. The new city will be no endless repetition of urban sprawl. In this town one feels at home and mobile as a pedestrian, as in historical Asian cities, Paris and Amsterdam
